Election 2022 Results: The assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh were held in seven phases.

New Delhi:

The BJP has won four states, including the politically significant Uttar Pradesh, in the mega elections seen as the semi-final before the 2024 national election. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also hit gold in Punjab, giving the eight-year-old outfit its second state after Delhi. In Uttarakhand, the BJP has crossed majority mark while its ahead in 19 of 40 seats in Goa.

With around 90 of the state’s 117 seats, AAP is heading for a sweep in Punjab. “The people Punjab have done something spectacular. This has been a huge revolution. So many huge leaders have lost… Amarinder Singh has lost, Sukhbir Badal lost, Parkash Singh Badal lost, Charanjit Channi lost, Navjot Sidhu lost, Bikram Singh Majithia lost… this is nothing short of a massive, massive revolution,” Arvind Kejriwal said.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has crossed the 270 mark in latest trends. The party is firmly ahead of Samajwadi Party and Yogi Adityanath set for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister. The majority mark in the 403-member legislative assembly is 202.

Election trends show the BJP has extended its lead in Uttarakhand with the Congress trailing in the hill state. The BJP is leading in 42 seats while the Congress is leading in 25 in Uttarakhand assembly elections, as per the trends at 1 pm.

The BJP has won 20 seats in Goa while the Congress has won nine seats and is leading on 2 seats. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak and AAP won 2 each, Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party win 1 each and Independent 3

The BJP is likely to emerge as the largest party in Manipur but is short of the majority mark, show election trends. Meanwhile, BJP’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh has won from the Heingang seat by around 18,000 votes.

Here are the Highlights on Election Results 2022:

Belying predictions of fractured mandate, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been able to deliver victory for the party in the assembly elections in the coastal state.

Under Mr Sawant’s leadership, the BJP managed to win 20 out of 40 Assembly seats, more than what it had won five years ago, which makes it likely that he will continue in his post.

The 48-year-old politician is a three-time MLA from Sankhalim assembly constituency in North Goa district.

In an election that marks a turning point in India’s politics, one of the most remarkable stories is the BJP’s record return to power in Uttar Pradesh.

For the first time in three decades, a party has been re-elected in UP, India’s most politically important state, which is a bellwether for national elections.

With the BJP on course to win big in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and attain pole position in Manipur and Goa, the Shiv Sena on Thursday said the BJP should learn to digest success and attributed its performance in recent Assembly polls to good election management.

On its dismal performance in Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur, Shiv Sena chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut said his party received less votes than NOTA (none of the above) because it fell “short of the notes” the BJP used.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led party failed to open its account in states where it fielded its candidates.

Gurdeep Sappal, Congress: Yes, there is no contradiction on that… it has been a disasterous day. We, unlike the AAP, do not do propaganda. We do good work but do not indulge in propaganda.

Manish Sisodia, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister: When I was travelling from village to village, I saw that people knew about the good work done by us in Delhi and they knew of the Kejriwal model of governance.

I had gone to a small village in Punjab on the Pak border and I was pleasantly surprised to knwo that people already knew of all the good work done by us in the education sector and they asked me that if we choose you, will you open a college here. Will you do more for education. That is when I knew that the Kejriwal model of development has reached every village.

Vishwajit Rane, Health Minister, Goa: The style of working in the BJP is totally different from the Congress. Rita ji is absolutely right in saying that just the family in Congress cannot ressurect them.

Rita Joshi, BJP MP: The people are giving very clear mandates now. The patterns and trends of voting have also changed entirely. The people now look for good governance and delivery of promises. Earlier it was only based on caste politics. That has now changed since Narendra Modi ji came in 2014.

Congress is living in a bubble. They think that the family can do it all. There is no connect with the grassroots. Priyanka ji came and campaigned for the last 3 months and gave a catchy slogan. That does not work. You have t connect with the people and work with them. That is missing in the Congress.

AAP’s Raghav Chadha: The first takeaway is that AAP has arrived at the national stage. Second, Arvind Kejriwal ji is the chief protagonist of the most successful political startup in India – even more so than the BJP in the 80s. They had the entire Jan Sangh base, but we started from scratch and in 10 years we have 2 states. And 3rd takeaway is that Arvind Kejriwal will be the national alternative to the BJP and that is where we are are heading.

We will definitely contest in Gujarat and Himachal. But we will speak about the strategy in the days to come.

AAP’s Raghav Chadha: My heartfelt congratulations to both Vishwajit Rane and Anupriya Patel. Now that the elections are over, I hope we can all rise above party politics and do the job with the responsibility entrusted to us.

The results in Punjab were on expected lines for us. We were expecting a landslide. We were hoping for a three-fourth majority and now we have actually got it. It is huge.

Union Minister Anupriya Patel: This big, historic mandate come with huge responsibility. Our good policies have delivered and people have gained from their benefits. We have to do more in terms of employment generation, and we will do so. It is a big responsibility and we will work on that. People worked on good governance and inclusive growth.

Vishwajit Rane, Health Minister, Goa: There was a perception that was being created was that the Congress would form government… the opinion polls also claimed that, but the BJP’s vote base was intact and its vote share has in fact increased.

The Congress did not do much on ground, as opposed to the BJP. But this perception was being created. But we did what we had to and showed them incorrect. Also, the opposition got fragmented among TMC, AAP, Revolutionary Goans, and others. That was a factor too.

Gilles Verniers, Assistant Professor, Ashoka University: When you go from a multi-polar fight to a bipolar fight, then the votes are distributed among the two parties.

The Samajwadi Party did better in that, but in the overall scheme of things, the BJP managed to hold key areas and also increase their cote share.

At the end of it – with the scale of things in UP – the SP’s better performance in getting more of those seats wouldn’t really matter too significantly.

Assembly Election Results 2022

Prannoy Roy: The people have spoken, and the people have spoken vociferously and decisively.

There was a wave everywhere – all states, and the BJP had a positive swing in its favour, except Uttarakhand where it was off by little less than 2%. The Congress completely decimated.

Yogi Adityanath will return as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh with the BJP – a first for India’s most politically vital state in 37 years – with an ever bigger vote share than last time, as election results were declared on Thursday.

Shortly before 9:30 am, NDTV called the election for the BJP, projecting more than 250 seats for the party out of the state’s 403. By 10 am, the BJP, it seemed, could cross 300 – the ambitious target set by the party for itself.

The BJP has shored up 44.6 per cent of the vote – a significant 5 per cent improvement over the 2017 elections.

  • Some parties and people are on a constant endeavour to create doubt and fear in the minds and hearts of people.
  • Instead of bringing the nation together in trying times, they chose to fragment the nation on the basis of caste, region, etc.
  • For a strong and united India, this kind of mindset is a matter of grave concern. When the world was praising India’s vaccine efforts, these people created doubts and fear in the minds of people.
  • Even on a humane level on such a noble work of providing vaccines was reduced to divisive politics.
  • Not just that, even during the ongoing war in Ukraine, when the whole nation should stand together, these people tried to fragment India into regions, caste, etc.
  • They raised doubts on Operation Ganga which is being done successfully. These people provoked the families, provoked students in Ukraine, created fear in their minds in an already tense situation… and for what, just to fragment India for personal political gains.
  • They do not understand what it is to stand united for India. This mindset is truly worrisome and something that all Indians must think about.

Election Results: PM says “results of 2022 have decided outcome of 2024”

  • Many people had said that the fate of the 2019 general election was decided when the 2017 UP election result was declared.
  • All I can say is that the same thought applies now too… the 2024 general election result can be glimpsed in the result of the 2022 UP election.

“People keep insulting UP by saying that only jaatiwaad ki rajneeti (politics of caste) works. But since 2014 – In 2014, 2017, 2019 and now 2022, the people have shown again and again that they vote only for vikaswaadi ki rajneeti (Politics of progress and developemt). What more proof do these naysayers want – that UP votes for progress, not for caste.”

Election Results: “I will not rest till I ensure that benefits are reaching the poorest person,” says PM

  • For people at the grassroots to benefit from the government’s programmes and schemes, there must be a good governance delivery mechanism – a good system. This is extremely important. And that is what we in the BJP have ensured.
  • Good and clean governance for all with a good delivery system. And I will not sit, I will not rest till I ensure that benefits are reaching the poorest person – to every poor person.
  • I am here to serve. We believe in sewa. We are here to deliver 100% and will continue to do so.

  • In Uttarakhand too it is the first time that an incumbent govt has been voted back to power and that too a majority.
  • And the same in Manipur too.
  • From the Himalayas (Uttarakhand) to the Sea (Goa), to the northern and biggest state of India (UP) to the far reaches of the northeast (Manipur), BJP has got the blessings of the people from all over India.

Election Results: “This time we had said that Holi will start on March 10 itself,” says PM Modi

  • Today is a festive day. I congratulate and thank all the people of all the states that went to vote.
  • I am grateful to all the voters, especially our mothers, sisters and our youth. The manner in which you have given a verdict is in itself a message to all.

  • These programmes and schemes have not just been a success, but has also benefitted the people greatly and hence they have given us a tremendous majority.
  • With this win, the people of UP have given their blessing to Narendra Modi ji… first in 2014, then in 2017, then again in 2019 and now for the fourth time now in 2022.
  • This shows how much trust they have on Narendra Modi ji’s leadership.
